Chennai: tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. stalin on tuesday inaugurated the statue of revolutionary philosopher and political thinker Karl Marx at the Kannimara Library premises within the Egmore government Museum campus in Chennai.

Speaking at the ceremony, the chief minister described Karl Marx as one of the most influential thinkers in world history whose ideas reshaped political thought and inspired movements for workers’ rights, social justice, and equality across the globe. He said Marx’s philosophy continues to remain relevant in addressing contemporary issues such as economic inequality and social exploitation.

M.K. stalin noted that Marx’s writings laid the foundation for modern labour movements and helped unite workers beyond national and cultural boundaries. He said that tamil Nadu has a long tradition of progressive politics and rationalist thought, and the installation of the Karl Marx statue reflects the state’s commitment to intellectual freedom and social equality.

The chief minister said that the statue has been installed at the Egmore Museum campus, a place of learning and historical importance, so that students, researchers, and the general public can engage with the legacy of Karl Marx. He emphasized that public spaces should celebrate thinkers who challenged injustice and stood for human dignity.

Highlighting the policies of the DMK government, M.K. stalin said that the state continues to work for the welfare of labourers and marginalized sections through various schemes related to education, healthcare, social security, and employment. He added that these initiatives are inspired by egalitarian ideals similar to those advocated by Marx.

The event was attended by ministers, senior government officials, leaders of trade unions, representatives of left parties, scholars, and a large number of members of the public. Floral tributes were paid to the statue, and speakers recalled Marx’s enduring influence on global political and social movements.

Concluding his address, the chief minister said that Karl Marx’s ideas would continue to guide generations in the struggle for equality and justice, and that the statue stands as a symbol of the state’s respect for progressive and transformative thought.
