Aval Vadai Recipe

(Poha Vada)

Aval vadai is a light, crispy South indian snack made using aval (flattened rice or poha), blended with lentils and spices. It’s short to put together and perfect for tea time or as an night snack.

Components:

1 cup aval (poha/flattened rice)

1/2 cup urad dal (split black gram)

2 green chilies (chopped)

1 small onion (finely chopped)

1 teaspoon ginger (grated)

A few curry leaves (chopped)

Half teaspoon cumin seeds

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

Soak Urad Dal: Wash and soak urad dal in water for at least 2 hours. Drain well.

Prepare Poha: Rinse aval in brief and soak it in water for 2 minutes. Drain properly and squeeze out extra water.

Grind Batter: In a blender, integrate soaked urad dal and inexperienced chilies. Grind to a easy, fluffy batter by including minimal water. Switch to a bowl.

Add Poha & mix: add the soaked and tired aval, chopped onions, ginger, curry leaves, cumin seeds, and salt to the batter. Blend nicely.

Warmth Oil: warmth oil in a deep pan for frying.

Form & Fry: moist your palms, take small quantities of the batter, and shape into flat discs or small balls. Cautiously drop them into warm oil.

Fry till Crisp: Fry on medium warmth until golden brown and crisp. Dispose of and drain on paper towels.

Serving Tip:

Serve hot with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, or ketchup.

Aval vadai is crunchy, mild, and full of taste — a remarkable snack that’s easy to make and loved by means of every age!
