The State of telangana received an orange notice on monday foretelling "heavy to very heavy" rain in several districts and heavy rain throughout multiple districts for the next two days. The weather is still swinging between heavy rains and an utterly dry climate in Telangana. This comes after a completely dry, rain-deficient season in august that was immediately followed by flooding in July.

Even as heavy rains continued to lash a few districts from sunday night, the india Meteorological Department, hyderabad on monday issued an orange alert for jagtial, karimnagar, Peddapalli, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, mahabubnagar and Nagarkurnool, while an yellow alert was issued for districts including erstwhile adilabad, parts of erstwhile karimnagar, Nizamabad, parts of erstwhile Warangal, Kamareddy, Siddipet, Wanaparthi, Narayanpet and Jogulamba Gadwal, both for Tuesday.

Parts of the former adilabad and the former karimnagar had severe rains on monday, with Peddalingapuram, Ellanthakunta in the Rajanna-Sircilla district reporting the highest total of 153.5 mm and Metpalli in the jagtial district receiving 150.8 mm. The Rajanna-Sircilla collector Anurag jayanthi asked all government employees to be present at the district headquarters and to make sure that safety precautions were in place as a result of the scenario, which has put the district administrations in these districts on alert.

The IMD alert applies to Vikarabad and the neighboring districts, including hyderabad, where the rains started on Sunday. The yellow alert status was also given to the nation's capital. According to the IMD, telangana saw 'vigorous' southwest monsoon conditions, with various meteorological systems contributing to the rainfall.

According to the Met Department, the rains were caused by two troughs: one from the cyclonic circulation over the Northwest Bay of bengal to east Bihar, and another from this cyclonic circulation to telangana in the lower troposphere. It was anticipated that this weather pattern will bring around sporadic very heavy rains in the State.

Meanwhile, irrigation authorities on monday opened the reservoir's four crest gates to release 12,000 cusecs of water downstream due to massive inflows into the sriram Sagar Project (SRSP). In comparison to the full reservoir level of 1091 feet, the reservoir's storage level as of today was 1090.8 feet.

Due to the ongoing rain in the upstream areas during the past two days, the inflows have increased. Since the morning, the project has received 2500 cubic seconds of water. Irrigation officials have ordered the district administrations of Nizamabad, karimnagar, jagtial, and nirmal to notify residents in catchment areas when water is released downstream.
