The government has decided to form the 8th Pay Commission earlier this year. But according to the Finance Ministry, the formal notification for the appointment of its chairman and its members is still awaited. Giving a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Union minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that before issuing the notification for the 8th Pay Commission, inputs have been sought from the major shareholders as well as the Ministry of home Affairs, Ministry of Defense and other ministries.
Waiting for appointment of CPC Chief
On the question raised by MPs TR Balu and anand Bhadoria about the delay in the formation of the panel despite the announcement of the 8th Pay Commission in January, the minister of State for Finance said that the new pay scale will be implemented only when the recommendation is made by the Pay Commission and the government accepts it. However, despite six months having passed since the announcement of the formation of the CPC, a formal notification regarding the appointment of its members and chairman of the Pay Commission is yet to be issued.
Demand for details of the Eighth Pay Commission
After there being no clarity on the formation of the Pay Commission, now the MPs have demanded detailed details about the delay in it, the appointment of the chairman and members and its terms of reference. It is worth noting that the Terms of Reference (TOR) including the formation of the chairman and members of the Pay Commission is awaited from the Finance Ministry. The Terms of Reference regarding the Eighth Pay Commission has neither been finalized nor has it been notified.
It is worth noting that the Pay Commission is constituted every 10 years to review the increase in the salary and pension of central employees. The Commission recommends increasing other facilities including basic allowance and bonus in view of inflation and other things.
