So far, a total of 58 thousand 188 crore 53 lakh rupees has been collected as toll on national highways via postage. In a written response to a question in the state assembly, Central Road Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari said that more than 4.59 crore postage stamps have been distributed across the country until 31 january 2022, and 58 thousand 188 crore 53 lakh rupees has been collected through customs duty on national highways so far.

Refunds are conducted under the FASTag programme once the appropriate issuing bank has scrutinised and validated the evidence/supporting facts submitted by counterparties such as fee plaza business owners, acquirer banks, system integrators, and so on. The National Highways Authority of india has put in place a number of procedures to limit or eliminate the incidence of any improper FASTag deductions at user charge plazas. 

In 2018, FASTag cars at fee plazas were required to use Interface Control, which allowed for the elimination of any repeated Electronic Toll Collection transactions.
