On thursday (US local time), white house spokesperson john Kirby commented on the accusations against an indian national for his alleged involvement in a "foiled plot" to assassinate Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, adding that Washington takes the allegations "very seriously."

Kirby softened the remark by emphasising the importance of the two countries' bilateral ties.

"India remains a strategic partner, and we will work to improve and strengthen our strategic partnership with India." Simultaneously, we take this extremely seriously. "We take these allegations and this investigation very seriously," said a top white house official during a news conference.

He was replying to a question on the US Justice Department's charge of indian citizen Nikhil Gupta, who was accused of conspiring with an indian government agency employee to hire a hitman to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US citizen and founder of the Khalistani organisation Sikhs for Justice.

"We are glad to see that india is also taking it seriously by announcing their own efforts to investigate this," Kirby said of India's response to the situation. We have made it plain that we want anyone who is involved for these alleged crimes to be brought accountable."
