Politics has heated up over the water shortage in Delhi. Led by delhi bjp President Virendra Sachdeva, MPs Manoj Tiwari, Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, Yogendra Chandolia, Kamaljit Sehrawat, praveen Khandelwal and Bansuri Swaraj met Lieutenant governor Vinay Kumar Saxena. During this, they submitted a memorandum accusing the aam aadmi party (AAP) government of punjab of creating an artificial water crisis in Delhi.
bjp has said in its memorandum that the AAP government of punjab has announced a huge cut in the water supply to delhi from Haryana's Bhakra Canal. They claim that there is no shortage of water in the Bhakra Canal, yet AAP has taken this step for political gain. bjp says that delhi gets more than 50% of its water needs from haryana, but the AAP government of punjab is harassing the people of delhi by stopping this supply.
Targeting Kejriwal: Attempt to create instability in Delhi?
bjp has launched a scathing attack on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. They allege that after being out of power in delhi, AAP is trying to spread political instability. bjp claims that the punjab government took this step at the behest of Kejriwal, due to which delhi may face a serious water crisis.
Water dispute between punjab and Haryana
According to other sources, there has been a dispute between punjab and haryana over the sharing of water in the past as well. The supply of water to delhi from the Bhakra Canal is important, but the punjab government has recently talked about cutting the water supply citing its needs. Experts say that if this cut is implemented, then the water shortage in delhi may increase in the summer season.
Demand for intervention from the Lieutenant Governor
The bjp has appealed to the Lieutenant governor to immediately intervene in this matter. They have demanded that concrete steps be taken to save the people of delhi from this alleged water crisis. The Lieutenant governor has assured to consider the issue, but no official statement has come out in this matter yet.
