As pakistan experiences an economic crisis, inflation is at its highest level. Food items now cost 70–80 times more than they did previously. Food is not readily available even on this. In several locations, stampedes to get as much food as possible at the zakat distribution during Ramadan resulted in dozens of fatalities. Even in this circumstance, the smugglers' attention is focused on profit. Food is being smuggled into afghanistan despite the scarcity in Pakistan. By smuggling food from pakistan to afghanistan, criminals profit twice as much.
Supply is being done in 8 states of Afghanistan
The afghanistan Chamber of Commerce says that not only sugar but other food items are also coming to afghanistan from pakistan through smuggling. However, the highest demand is for sugar, because after the Taliban took over afghanistan in august 2021, there has been the biggest shortage of sugar, which was being imported from other countries earlier. Smugglers' trucks are transporting these goods to 8 different states of afghanistan through illegal routes on the borders of both countries.
Chagai is the most important point
According to the BBC report, the Chagai district of balochistan remains the most important point for smuggling. Yet, apart from Chagai, smuggling is going on freely through Chaman, Qila Saifullah, Killa Abdullah and Pashin. However, entry into afghanistan from all these places is usually through only one illegal route. This way is in Panj Pai. Earlier, pakistan used to trade heavily with afghanistan from here. Later this route was closed in official papers, but it is still open illegally.
