A 30-year-old man has been detained in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district for reportedly raping at least seven females while acting as a female college instructor and phoning them about scholarship cash, police said on Saturday. Most of the survivors are from indigenous communities. The accused, Brajesh Prajapati, used a voice-changing programme to seem like a woman while speaking with potential victims over the phone, according to authorities.

While chief minister Mohan Yadav authorised a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the case, the accused's unlicensed residence was razed after his detention.

Three of Prajapati's colleagues have also been detained, according to mahendra singh Sikarwar, Inspector General of Rewa Range.

Prajapati phoned girl students while acting as a female college instructor from a Tikari collage and invited them to meet so that they might receive a scholarship, according to a police officer. The caller told the girls that 'her son' would take them to her place.

Following the incident, he would steal the girl's phone.

According to one of the complainants, after one such talk, Prajapati, dressed in a helmet and gloves, picked her up on a motorbike, drove her to a lonely area, and allegedly raped her.

During the investigation, authorities discovered burn and injury marks on the suspect's hands and eventually apprehended him.

While Prajapati admitted to raping seven females, four of them have come forward to file complaints, according to Inspector General Sikarwar.

He may have raped other females, and an investigation is underway, according to the official.

His colleagues Lavkush Prajapati, rahul Prajapati, and sandeep Prajapati were also detained, and 16 cell phones were seized from them. One of them was a college student who obtained contact information for ladies via a campus whatsapp group, according to the instagram post.

Their particular roles in the crimes were still to be determined.
