India registered 39,742 new coronavirus cases in the previous 24 hours on sunday morning, bringing the country's total to 3,13,71,901 since the epidemic began in january 2020. The total was up 1.64 percent from the 39,097 instances reported the day before.

The death toll increased by 535 people to 4,20,551. The number of open cases has decreased by 765 to 4,08,212. So far, a total of 3,05,43,138 people have recovered from the condition.

The supreme court described the relaxations provided by the kerala government for Bakrid as "wholly uncalled for," and stated that the issuance of such relaxations for Bakrid has exposed the indian population to the countrywide pandemic. The supreme court has threatened the kerala government with legal action if the state's Bakrid relaxations lead to the spread of Covid-19. The state administration, led by the CPM, agreed last week to lift lockdown restrictions for three days beginning sunday in honour of the Bakrid holiday.

The ICMR also advised the kerala Govt on the relaxation given. Many also criticized Govt relaxation anticipating the spread of the covid-19. Prior to this week, there was rapid progress in the decline of the cases. As anticipated by many after the relaxation is given after the Bakrid festival an amid spike in the Daily cases is seen in Kerala. Now that it has raised up to 46% of the Nations total cases.
