Actor Vijay made his official political debut last week when he said that he will be running for the tamil Nadu Legislative assembly in 2026 and that he has filed to register his party under the name Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). According to recent reports, Vijay is most likely to run in the tamil Nadu constituencies of Thoothukudi and Nagapattinam.

The Thoothukudi district and lok sabha constituency comprise six tamil Nadu constituencies: Vilathikulam, Tiruchendur, Ottapidaram, Srivaikuntam, and Kovilpatti. Ottapidaram is one of these reserved seats for Scheduled Castes (SC). The Nagapattinam district includes the following three tamil Nadu constituencies: Nagapattinam, Kilvelur, and Vedaranyam. Among these is Kilvelur, a reserved seat for the SC. Constituencies in the thiruvarur district, including Nannilam, thiruvarur, and Thiruthiraipoondi (SC reserved), are also included in the Nagapattinam lok sabha constituency.

Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) founder T Velmurugan has threatened to issue a legal letter to the election commission of india (ECI) requesting that the ECI not give the acronym TVK to actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). "TVK is already an abbreviation that we use. In the event that Vijay also uses the same abbreviation, it might confuse members of the public as well as the cadres of both parties.
