With the death of eight more Covid patients in the last 72 hours, the death toll from oxygen and ventilator shortages at various karnataka hospitals has surpassed 40. On tuesday, five deaths were announced from a Hubballi hospital, but officials denied that they were caused by a lack of oxygen. The district administration created a committee to investigate the cause of death after relatives said the patients died at about 4.30 p.m. due to an interruption in oxygen supply.

Dr. Yeshwant Madinkar, the district health officer, said the hospital, which has 30 jumbo oxygen cylinders, was treating 21 Covid patients. He said that oxygen shortage was impossible because the hospital has a 2KL oxygen container and extracts 85,000 litres of oxygen from natural air. Despite the government's arguments, owing to an increase in the number of active cases, hospitals in certain districts are running out of oxygen. According to reports, several private hospitals in the districts have declined to accept new patients due to a lack of oxygen. Those in home confinement are in much worse shape because they can't locate cylinders. They have ample oxygen in storage, according to a state health official, but are in short for cylinders to transport the oxygen
