On Tuesday, May 7, 2024, polls in 93 seats located in 11 states and union territories will take place in the third phase of the lok sabha elections. In the 2019 lok sabha elections, the ruling bharatiya janata party had won a resounding majority of these seats, including every one in Gujarat, Karnataka, and Madhya Pradesh.
 

There are over 1,300 contenders in the running, around 120 of them are female. There will be 8.39 crore female voters among the 17.24 crore eligible voters, and 1.85 lakh polling places staffed by 18.5 lakh officials have been put up.
 

After the bjp easily won Surat, elections are scheduled for May 7 in 25 seats in Gujarat, the home state of prime minister Narendra Modi, along with 11 seats in Maharashtra, 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh, the remaining 14 seats in Karnataka, 7 seats in Chhattisgarh, 5 seats in Bihar, 4 seats in assam and West Bengal, and all two seats in Goa. On Tuesday, almost 11 crore voters will be able to cast ballots in the union territories of Dadra and nagar Haveli, daman and diu (2 seats), and nine madhya pradesh seats, including Betul, where elections were postponed.
 

There will be final vote in 283 of the 243 Lok Saba seats following the third phase. The dates of the next four stages are May 13, May 20, May 25, and june 1. On june 4, there will be a vote count.
 

• Key candidates: Among the bigwigs are Union ministers amit shah (Gandhinagar in Gujarat), jyotiraditya scindia (Guna in Madhya Pradesh), Mansukh Mandaviya (Porbandar in Gujarat), Parshottam Rupala (Rajkot in Gujarat), pralhad joshi (Dharwad in Karnataka), SP Singh Baghel (Agra in Uttar Pradesh), Dimple Yadav (Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh and supriya sule (Baramati in Maharashtra).

• Big fights: Union home minister amit shah of the bjp is contesting against Congress's Sonal patel in Gandhinagar. amit shah is seeking re-election after securing approximately 9 lakh votes and a vote share of 69.67 per cent in the 2019 elections.

jyotiraditya scindia, a union minister, is running against Congressman Rao Yadavendra Singh Yadav, a contender from Guna, Madhya Pradesh. In the 2019 lok sabha elections, BJP's krishna Pal Singh Yadav secured victory with more than 6.14 lakh votes and a vote share of 52.11%.

• In an effort to keep her family's stronghold in Mainpuri, Samajwadi party MP Dimple Yadav is running against minister Jaiveer Singh of Uttar Pradesh. With more than 5.2 lakh votes and a vote share of 53.75 percent in 2019, mulayam singh yadav became victorious. Dimple Yadav, on the other hand, triumphed in the 2022 by-election with around 6.2 lakh votes and a vote share of 64.08 percent.

• This election would put the loyalties of voters in Baramati, the bastion of the Pawar family, to the test. While senior leader Sharad Pawar-led ncp (Sharadchandra Pawar) is relying on daughter supriya sule, who is running for a fourth term, Ajit Pawar's party has nominated his wife Sunetra Pawar. With more than 6.86 lakh votes and a vote share of 52.63%, supriya sule won the election in 2019.
